President's Report

As we transition to fall and cooler weather, your BOG/Leadership group has been hard at work planning our monthly meetings and fall events. Our September virtual monthly meeting was tremendously successful with over 170 participants. We want to thank our speaker, Brandon Damas with HTS, for the great presentation on the current pandemic and how it relates to our industry.

We also hosted a sold out Clay Shoot tournament in the month of September where we raised over $3,000 for Research Promotion. Thank you to all the participants and most importantly THANK YOU to our RP Chair and Committee for putting together such a successful event. Your efforts are always appreciated.

As we look forward to our fall golf tournament at the Cowboys Golf Club, I urge you to sign up early for teams and sponsorships as spots fill up very quickly. Be on the lookout for more information from our RP Chair, Henry Holmes.

I would also like to announce that we have started hosting in-person YEA Happy Hours so we hope to see you at our next YEA Happy Hour.

Stay well, stay blessed.

Ermias Lamesgin
2020-2021 ASHRAE Dallas Chapter President

YEA & Student Activities

NOW is the moment our students really #needhelp!

I volunteer as the ASHRAE Dallas Student Activities chair this year and am looking for MEP professionals to share their knowledge, career path, and example projects with students at UTD and UNT. DM me if you're up for this!!! The semester's ALMOST OVER so please STOP ignoring and START doing ⏰

Topics can be your favorite heat transfer principles, psychrometrics, Green Design, what do sale engineers do, EIT/PE certification, or anything engineering inspirational you can think of. We will be using online communication (Virtual Meetings) so this will only cost you time.

Please please consider this opportunity to volunteer and inspire the next generation. If you were a student, you know what it's like struggling to understand #hvac, so lets stop that experience from repeating, especially during this uncertain time.

Government Affairs Committee Update

Hello ASHRAE Dallas Chapter! As we ramp up for Election Day on November 3, 2020, we want to share what the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force (ETF) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has researched and developed for Polling Locations and Voters. If you plan on voting in person or venture out in public, please protect yourself to reduce the risk of contracting and help stop the spread of COVID-19 by following the CDC Guidelines.

ASHRAE ETF has developed ASHRAE Guidance for Polling Place HVAC Systems. And, the CDC has established their Considerations for Election Polling Locations and Voters. Both documents contain similar recommendations which are summarized below:

  • Workers and voters should follow CDC guidelines
    • Wear face masks
    • Practice social distancing including crowd/line management and separate entrance/exit
    • Employ hand/respiratory hygiene
    • Stay at home if feeling sick
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and voting equipment
  • Use single use objects, such as pens
  • Ballot cards should be disinfected between use
  • Ensure ventilation systems are operating properly
  • Provide MERV-13 filtration or portable HEPA air cleaners

Consider bringing your own pen to sign the ledger, early voting to avoid crowds, vote at off-peak times, or mail-in voting. Lastly, take a moment to review Guidance from other organizations, agencies, and associations, such as the World Health Organization and Environmental Protection Agency.

I can be reached at 321.282.8816 or [email protected]. Looking forward to a great year – stay safe and healthy!
