Hello Dallas ASHRAE Family!

September marks the true beginning of our ASHRAE year, and even though the Texas heat is still hanging on, our chapter is already building momentum around our theme: Game On – Expanding the Bench.

This year, we're also rallying behind a larger goal embodied in our leadership message:

"30 Years in the Making: This is Our Golden Gavel Year."

It's been nearly three decades since Dallas last brought home the Golden Gavel. Achieving that level of chapter excellence won't happen because of a few dedicated volunteers carrying the load. Championship teams are built by developing depth, cultivating talent, and preparing the next player up. That's exactly what expanding the bench is all about.

✍️ Build the Game Plan

August gave us a strong start. Our Board meeting brought together new faces, fresh ideas, and volunteers ready to contribute. We also kicked off the year with an outstanding technical meeting, and we extend our thanks to Dr. Theresa Weston for her presentation on Defining and Assessing Resilience. Her message aligned perfectly with ASHRAE’s Society Theme and sparked meaningful conversations about designing buildings and systems that can adapt, endure, and recover.

This month, we move from planning to action.

Our September Chapter Meeting will feature a technical presentation on Cooling Tower Design at Maggiano's NorthPark on September 8th. Cooling towers remain a critical component of many HVAC systems, and proper design decisions can have significant impacts on energy efficiency, reliability, water usage, and long-term operating costs.

Technical meetings like these are one of the best ways to stay current with industry trends while building relationships with fellow members and industry partners. Whether you’re a longtime member or attending for the first time, we want you there. Bring a colleague, bring a young engineer, or bring someone who’s ready to get in the game.

Attendance Challenge

To encourage consistent participation, we’re launching a new recognition program: Attend at least 75% of all technical and social events this year, and you’ll earn a special recognition prize.

And for the member who attends the most events overall? A Grand Prize and chapter‑wide recognition as our most engaged member of the year.

This is your year to show up, get involved, and help build the momentum that carries us to the Golden Gavel.

⛳ Fall Golf Tournament – September 18

We’re just days away from one of our signature events: The Dallas ASHRAE Fall Golf Tournament at Cowboys Golf Club.

While the tournament supports Research Promotion, it also embodies what Expanding the Bench is all about — bringing together members, partners, sponsors, students, and future leaders in an environment where relationships grow and opportunities emerge.

Whether you’re golfing, volunteering, sponsoring, or simply connecting afterward, your presence strengthens our chapter. Register, support our sponsors, and help make this year’s tournament another outstanding success.

This year, we’re committed to improving communication and strengthening connections throughout our chapter. We want every member to know what opportunities exist, how to get involved, and where their contributions matter.

At its core, Expanding the Bench is about creating opportunities for others to step forward and grow.

Dallas ASHRAE is special because our members willingly share their knowledge, experience, and time. Leadership development happens when we welcome first‑time attendees, mentor Young Engineers, encourage committee involvement, and help volunteers take on new responsibilities.

This year, we’re committed to creating more pathways for members to develop their skills and confidence through committee service, mentorship, and chapter involvement. The strongest chapters don’t wait until a position is vacant to identify the next leader — they develop the next player before they’re needed.
